May 13, 2014 – Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in Nevada and opiate prescribing is front and center in discussions to stem the diversion and misuse of prescribed drugs. Together with Mel Pohl, Medical Director of Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC), the University of Nevada School of Medicine is offering a class on opiate prescribing to help physicians consider the ramifications of recommending opiate treatment. “The Prescription for Addiction: Opioids or Not?” is a 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit class which will allow physicians to confidently prescribe appropriate and safe opiate medications to treat pain and inform physicians about new trends in pain management and narcotic alternatives. The course is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the brochure and registration links can be found on UNSOM’s CME Webpage. The course will be taught in Reno and videoconferenced to Elko.
