If Ocean’s Eleven and Last Vegas are what come to mind when you think of Las Vegas, it’s not surprising why it may not be your top choice for recovery destination vacations. It can be hard to resist temptation when drunken tourists are around every turn. But if your friends are insistent that Vegas is the place to be, you can still live it up without backtracking on your recovery progress. The Strip is best known for its countless casinos, but if you look a little deeper, plenty of other entertainment abounds. There are hidden gems inside many of these locales:
- Check out the art gallery at the Bellagio, as well as the fountain show outside.
- Find the likenesses of some of your favorite celebrities at Madam Tussauds located inside the Venetian. While you’re there, enjoy a gondola ride while being serenaded by the gondolier.
- See the battle outside of Treasure Island, the volcano erupt at the Mirage, and the sharks swimming at Mandalay Bay.
If you’re a history buff, explore the Neon Museum where decades of Las Vegas’ famous neon signs have found their final resting place. You can also check out the mesmerizing light shows on Fremont Street and even soar through on a zip line if you’re up for an adrenaline rush. There are also tons of shows to enjoy whether you want to belt out tunes with Britney Spears, rock along with the Blue Man Group, or watch the daredevils of Cirque du Soleil. If you’re a die-hard CSI fan, you can try your hand at solving a triple-murder at CSI: The Experience at the MGM Grand. If you’re not up for the glitz and glam of the city, just a short ride away is the scenic and calming Red Rock Canyon where you can lace up your sneakers and go for a hike. What better way to unwind and commune with nature? The Grand Canyon also makes for a great day trip when you want to escape. Don’t let a trip to Las Vegas sink your recovery efforts when there are better ways to spend your money than gambling and your memories will be much sweeter without a drink in hand.
