The abuse of prescription pain medicine is epidemic, especially among adolescents. Dr. Mel Pohl, medical director of the Las Vegas Recovery Center, and one of the nation’s leaders in studying prescription abuse, has successfully treated patients and his own chronic pain without dangerous mediciness. We need to rethink how we approach pain, he says.

Addiction to painkillers is spreading and leading to other problems – from doctor shopping to pharmacy robberies to overdose deaths. During the last 10 years in Nevada, per capita sales of Oxycodone surged 366%. Hydrocodone sales rose 233%.
I am encouraged that the US Senate is drawing attention to the important topic of chronic pain in America. As national attention is brought to this issue, I hope that the discussion includes potential dangers of opiate pain medications, and the validity of non-opiate approaches to the treatment of chronic pain. to read more click…
