Massage can give a feeling of replenished energy; it is a systematic, manual application of pressure and movement to the soft tissue of the body--the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia (the membrane surrounding muscles and muscle groups). It is believed to encourage healing by promoting the flow of blood and lymphatic fluid, relieving tension, stimulating nerves, and stretching and loosening muscles and connective tissues to keep them elastic. Massage can stimulate or calm the nervous system, depending upon what is required by the individual, and thus help to reduce fatigue, leaving the receiver with a feeling of replenished energy. At its best, massage has the potential to restore an individual physically, mentally, and spiritually.
About Susan Rocchio--Massage Therapist
I became interested in Massage Therapy as a healing art when my sister was killed in a car accident in the early 80s. My family was traumatized and in such grief, I knew instinctively that touch could help. I remember my mother saying, "Your hands are taking away my stress," and I learned later how true this can be.
I believe Massage Therapy is a vital and integral part in physical, emotional, and spiritual health and has been shown to increase body awareness and general well-being on many levels. The benefits of massage are many and unique to each individual. Many find that massage acts like a "cleanser," pushing along lymphatic fluids and hastening the elimination of wastes and toxic debris. Often the opportunity to create balance in mind, body, and spirit is available through the peace that comes with quieting the mind as the body deeply relaxes.
I have studied massage and body work since 1993, incorporating Deep Tissue, Cranio-Sacral, and Healing Touch modalities into my practice--I have found these offer the most inspirational transformation to the client.
Massage Therapy will assist on the journey of self-care, health, and wellness.
